Domestic Violence PSAs

It’s about control. It’s about dominating another person. Sometimes it’s done with words. Sometimes it’s done with money. Sometimes there are threats. There can be a lot of yelling and lecturing. Rage. Frustration. And then, of course, there’s physical violence and that comes in a wide and diverse range of flavors from a little slap all the way out to death. However it’s dished up it is meant to control. It is meant to make the victim feel small and fearful and to feel pain. It usually isolates the family and friends from the victim. It’s hereditary because the behaviors get learned young and passed along. It also isn’t exclusively heterosexual. Oh no. It can be played out in any household. Social workers, ER staff and helpline professionals suggest it is under-reported. We read that huge percentages of us know someone in an abusive relationship. Do we speak up? Are we silent? Can we help someone get counseling and get involved? Or help them get out and get away?

Domestic violence. It’s unfair. It’s wrong. And it’s against the law.
