Gun Violence PSAs

They say that in a down economy, gun purchases go up. We’re in a down economy so are we seeing more about guns? It seems so. There’s no shortage of horrifying stories in the news. Accidents with children and guns. Disgruntled employees shoot supervisors. Teen gangs dispute turf. High school kids stage shoot-outs. Angry spouses settle arguments. Kids killing parents. And on and on. The headlines and lead stories never run out of violence. Where does the average person get the idea that a gun in the house is a good idea? TV shows and movies are pretty casual about gun use. Everyone knows the caliber and models and reel them off. Bad guys get shot. Some times good guys. Sometimes bystanders. We see “shootings” all the time as entertainment. What isn’t seen and is very sobering is the sadness, mourning, devastation and finality of a violent death. We don’t see the holes left in the lives of the victims’ families. We don’t see the anger and sadness of the shooters’ families. We don’t see all guns do until something happens close to our lives. And sadly, more and more kids know someone who was shot. More and more families have lost someone to gun violence. Get real about gun violence.
